Megson denies Anelka claim
03 Jan 2008 - 08:32:02
Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has denied claims that Nicolas Anelka is set to move to Chelsea.
The club's 11-goal leading scorer was quoted in the French press on Wednesday claiming there had been contact between the two clubs over a proposed transfer to Stamford Bridge.
But Megson is adamant the Blues have not made an enquiry as to the availability of the unsettled France international.
The 28-year-old, who cost the Trotters £8million 18 months ago, has netted 23 times in 60 appearances for the Reebok Stadium outfit and had signed a new four-year contract earlier this season
"In terms of Chelsea making contact, I am not aware of that or any other club making contact," said Megson after Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Derby County.
"I am aware of the speculation and have seen the article. But Nic did say if nothing happens he is happy at Bolton.
"It is something and nothing. We will just keep going and try to deal with the speculation that surrounds him."
Anelka himself had told L'Equipe: "The chairmen (of Bolton and Chelsea) are discussing it.
"I really hope it happens - and especially that I am eligible to play in the Champions League.
"But until the contract is signed and I am presented to the press in my new shirt, nothing is done."
