Megson blasts irate Blues
07 May 2009 - 12:20:48
Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson thinks the Chelsea players should apologise for their behaviour in the aftermath of the Blues' Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona.
Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack both angrily confronted referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after the 1-1 draw which put the Catalans into the Final on away goals.
John Terry, Frank Lampard and Jose Bosingwa all blasted the official after the match and their overall behaviour left Megson unimpressed.
He said: "I can fully understand the Chelsea players being as irate as they were, being so close to a Champions League Final yet finishing so far away from it.
"But I thought the scenes didn't reflect well on the game we have - not so much Chelsea and the players involved but football.
"Whether the referee has had a good, bad or indifferent game you can't behave like that.
"Football doesn't intend to hold its players up as role models, people tend to do that for them, but just in normal behaviour that's not on.
"You can come out with a load of reasons why, although you can never justify it, but it's just not on and I'm sure everyone involved in it will apologise for those things. It doesn't reflect well on the game itself."
