    Megson: Taylor for England

    21 Dec 2008 - 11:08:01

Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson has tipped Matt Taylor for an England call-up after his impressive display in Saturday's 2-1 win over Portsmouth.

The left-sided midfielder scored his side's first goal and set up the second for Ricardo Gardner as they raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first three minutes at the Reebok Stadium.

Taylor, who joined the Trotters from Portsmouth in January, has now scored five times in the league this season and Megson believes his form deserves a call-up to Fabio Capello's England squad.

"Matt's set-piece delivery is second to none, he tucks in, does his bit defensively and gets forward," he said.

"You don't like pushing people forward, but if England are looking for someone in what is a problem area, they could do worse than look at Matt.

"He works his socks off and it was a really good performance by him. He's really settled down and added goals to his game."

Meanwhile, Megson admitted he was disappointed that his side did not go on to win by a greater margin after their stunning start.

"We dominated the match so much I did not expect such a close scoreline," he continued.

"It was fantastic to go 2-0 up so soon in the game and we should have scored more but we lost a bit of momentum after Peter Crouch found the target."
