Portuguese striker Ariza Makukula is set to join Bolton Wanderers just days after snubbing a move to Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion.
The 27-year-old DR Congo-born Portugal international had been in talks over a switch to The Hawthorns until the end of the season.
But Makukula claims he has decided to turn down a move to the Premier League strugglers despite failing to establish himself in the Benfica first team following his £3million arrival from Sevilla 12 months ago.
However, he is now set to join the Trotters until the end of the season.
Bolton boss Gary Megson will also have the option to sign the four-times capped international on a permanent basis for a fee of around £4.5million at the end of the season.
Speaking about the Baggies, Makukula had said: "I respect the club but I didn't want to be part of their project.
"The coach was friendly, the club is well-organised, but I don't think it's a good fit for me."
