Bolton Wanderers boss Sammy Lee has moved quickly to strengthen his squad in the wake of Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Newcastle United by bringing Portsmouth defender Andy O'Brien to the club.
The 28-year-old has penned a two-year contract at the Reebok Stadium, with an option for a third year, after completing his transfer for an undisclosed fee.
Lee said of his 12th summer signing: "Andy is a great and astute acquisition for this football club.
"His versatility across the back line will give us greater strength in depth and options in a critical area."
O'Brien started his career with Bradford City and made 133 appearances for the Bantams before moving to Newcastle United during the 2000-01 campaign.
After making 120 appearances for the Magpies he moved to Frattton Park two years ago and played 37 games for the club.
