Bolton Wanderers boss Sammy Lee has admitted that long-serving goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen could leave the club in the near future, with talks over a new contract having stalled.
The 32-year-old Finland international's current contract runs out at the end of the season and Lee accepts that an agreement is a long way off at the present time.
He told the Evening News: "We are working hard behind the scenes to try to get an agreement.
"I have always said we don't want to lose our best players and Jussi comes into that category.
"The club made Jussi a very good offer, which he rejected.
"He said he would see out the remainder of his contract, which is not the same as saying he was staying at the club."
Jaaskelainen joined Bolton just under a decade ago from VPS Vaasa and has gone on to make more than 350 first-team appearances.
He has been linked with a number of other Premier League teams in recent times, including Sunderland, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham.
