New Bolton Wanderers boss Sammy Lee paid tribute to the players and staff at the club after a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa sealed a UEFA Cup place for next season.
Former manager Sam Allardyce was at the Reebok Stadium to see the Trotters seal their European place and Lee paid tribute to his successor's efforts, along with those of chairman Phil Gartside and the club's playing squad.
He said: "We knew it would be difficult as Villa had won their last three away games.
"I have said on many occasions that credit must go to the players. They have remained focused on the job. They way they've adapted to the circumstances has been fantastic.
"That was my worry because if we hadn't gained qualification for the UEFA Cup then it would have been a big disappointment for all the work that everyone had put in.
"The fact that we have qualified is great vindication of the groundwork which has been laid down by some very, very good people here at this football club.
"We didn't quite get the win that would have secured it regardless of other results, but it was not through a lack of effort."
