Keeper is Sam's hero
23 Oct 2006 - 08:30:31
Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen earned high praise from manager Sam Allardyce after saving two late penalties in the 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers.
The Finn denied both Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts to ensure the Trotters took all three points at Ewood Park, with Allardyce lauding his gloveman's performance.
He said: "Jussi's performances this year has been better than ever before, but none more so than in this game.
"The goalkeeper has made a hero of himself by saving two penalties and got us three crucial points.
"If you are talking about top goalkeepers, Jussi is up there with Petr Cech and Edwin Van der Sar.
"He has had to pull all the stops out and made life very sweet for us."
Jaaskelainen, 31, has been with Bolton since November 1997, making more than 300 appearances for the Trotters.
