Bolton Wanderers manager Sammy Lee picked out Jussi Jaaskelainen for special praise after watching his side lose 1-0 to Lyon in the Peace Cup Final in Korea Republic.
The Finland international had been expected to leave the Reebok Stadium this summer only to have a change of heart and decide to extend his stay with the Trotters.
The 32-year-old was outstanding in the tournament, with Lee saying: "Jussi was at his very best.
"He was one of the best keepers last season in the Premier League and, from what we have seen in Korea, he can only get better.
"He made some crucial saves throughout the tournament.
"Our preparation has been very good over in Korea. I asked the lads to improve in every game and we are making the right progress.
"We have four or five games to go before the new season starts and it is all about being mentally and physically ready for August 11.
"The lads will have a few days off before preparing for the Hibernian game on Wednesday. Korea has been a good adventure and the experience learned over here will stand us in good stead during the new season."
