Iceland international Heidar Helguson's spell with Bolton Wanderers has taken a turn for the worse after he was forced to have an operation on his injured ankle.
The 30-year-old striker moved to the Reebok Stadium from Fulham in the summer after scoring 15 times in 64 appearances for the Cottagers.
However, his only Premier League start for the Trotters came in last month's defeat at Craven Cottage and he has now been told he is unlikely to play again until the end of October at the earliest.
Before joining Fulham two years ago, Helguson scored 58 goals in 198 games for Watford.
Meanwhile, Bolton boss Sammy Lee has been dealt another blow with the news that Nicky Hunt is also facing a spell on the sidelines after spraining an ankle in Saturday's home defeat to Everton.
