Gartside ponders Tevez action
03 Oct 2008 - 10:51:27
Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside is considering launching legal action against West Ham United over the Carlos Tevez affair.
Gartside has decided to make the move after an independent tribunal ruled last week that the Hammers should pay Sheffield United up to £30million in compensation over the saga.
The Argentina international scored twice in a 3-1 win over Bolton towards the end of the 2006-07 campaign as the Trotters eventually finished seventh, two points adrift of sixth-placed Everton.
Gartside insisted: "There's an argument to say we can claim three points from West Ham.
"We went down there and lost 3-1, Tevez scored two and it cost us £700,000 because that was one place in the league.
"If Sheffield United are successful and get a claim, then why shouldn't we? It will make two or three clubs look at it and say they've lost income."
West Ham were originally fined £5.5million by a Premier League arbitration panel in April 2007 after admitting to breaking two league rules over the signings of Tevez and compatriot Javier Mascherano in August 2006.
