Gardner blow for Trotters
14 Jul 2007 - 12:26:00
Bolton Wanderers have suffered a blow during their participation in the pre-season Peace Cup with the news that Ricardo Gardner is likely miss the start of the new campaign.
Gardner was stretchered off during the Trotters' 1-1 draw with Seongnam Ilhwa in Seoul on Thursday and scans have shown the Jamaica international has suffered a torn hamstring.
"The results of the scan reveal he has a grade one tear of his hamstring, which is a great shame for Ricardo," manager Sammy Lee told the club's official website.
"The incident could have happened at any time to any player - it was very unfortunate.
"His recovery process will start immediately and will continue when we return to Bolton next week."
Meanwhile, Wanderers have received better news regarding Stelios Giannakopoulos, who was ruled out of Thursday's opening match with a calf injury before kick-off.
"The injury to Stelios is not as bad as first feared," revealed Lee.
"The medical team will monitor his rehabilitation over the next few days with a view to him resuming training at some stage early next week."
