Elmander takes the plaudits
18 Aug 2008 - 09:36:25
Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson was delighted to see record signing Johan Elmander mark his Trotters debut with a goal in the 3-1 win over Stoke City.
Elmander headed home the third goal for Bolton against the Potters, after Gretar Steinsson and Kevin Davies had put the home side in charge.
Megson said: "He is a good player and there is going to be an obvious link with Nicolas Anelka.
"But he is not like him at all. You would not see Nic working across the line, closing down defenders and making block tackles."
Of his side's overall display, Megson added: "We made a lot of changes in the summer both on and off the field and you hope things go as planned.
"In fact we had such an exceptional week's training, I said to my wife I had nothing to moan about.
"So for things to go like they did today, you have to be pleased because Stoke caused us a lot of problems.
"We had to deal with long throws and crosses into the box. In the main we did that and to score goals at the time we did gave us the momentum to go on and win the game."
