Elmander seeks better times
25 Feb 2009 - 10:13:47
Bolton Wanderers' record signing Johan Elmander is hopeful of avoiding further injury woes in the final few months of his first season in England.
The 27-year-old Sweden international has scored five goals in 19 appearances for the Trotters, having suffered with hamstring trouble on a couple of occasions.
Elmander's latest comeback came in the 2-1 win at home to West Ham, with the striker telling the Manchester Evening News: "I am desperate to get going again.
"It's not fun to be injured at any time, but now I need to stay fit for the rest of the season.
"The more games you play in a row, the better and hopefully the goals will come.
"I felt a little bit tired after 65 minutes, so I still need to get 100 per cent fit.
"We started really well and played a good game, scoring two beautiful goals. In the end we were fighting for the whole game and deserved to win."
Meanwhile, Bolton boss Gary Megson has played down rumours linking centre-back Danny Shittu with a loan move to Birmingham City.
