Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce is confident Kevin Davies will be ready to return to action by the end of September.
The combative striker suffered a fractured cheekbone during the 2-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic on August 26 and was initially told he would be out of action for a minimum of six weeks.
However, Davies has made good progress in his recovery and Allardyce is optimistic he will be able to face Liverpool on September 30.
He said: "Kevin's professionalism during his absence has to be admired.
"His honesty and efforts to get back playing is unquestioned and he is a credit to the industry.
"The injury was unfortunate and I look forward to welcoming him back in the team hopefully by the end of September."
