Davies happy with fast start
20 Aug 2008 - 16:11:51
Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies is hoping to build quickly on his goal in the 3-1 win over Stoke City on the opening day of the new season.
The 31-year-old target man took 13 games to get off the mark last term and is desperate to improve on an overall return of just four goals last season.
Davies told the Evening News: "I'm pleased to get off to a good start.
"Last season was frustrating and it's nice to get a goal. It gives me a bit of confidence.
"I wanted to score early on, because otherwise the pressure can build up, so I'm delighted to get that, but I don't want to sit back on that now."
Meanwhile, Davies has praised Trotters new boy Johan Elmander, who marked his club debut with a goal against the Potters.
He added: "There's a lot of pressure on Johan to produce, but from what I've seen he is going to score goals and he can only get better.
"He is a hard-working centre-forward, who holds the ball up well and runs the channels well. The lads have taken to him already and we're expecting big things from him this season."
