Davies handed Trotters rest
29 Oct 2009 - 08:55:42
Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson admitted that he was forced to give star striker Kevin Davies a rest for the 4-0 Carling Cup fourth round loss at Chelsea.
The talismanic frontman was left out against the Blues, with Megson hoping that a break will help Davies be back to his best for the league meeting of the two sides at the weekend.
"Davo gets battered from pillar to post every time he plays," Megson commented.
"He had three stitches above his right eye against Manchester United and two above his left eye against Everton.
"We just felt it would be unfair to chuck him in as we did against Everton and then ask him to do the same on Saturday. He needed a breather.
"But we missed a lot of things tonight. We weren't physically as strong as we need to be. Hopefully it'll be a bit different on Saturday."
