Davies earns Megson plaudits
06 Feb 2009 - 08:13:10
Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has heaped praise on new club captain Kevin Davies, who has taken the armband following Kevin Nolan's move to Newcastle United.
The combative striker stepped up to the mark last weekend by scoring twice in the 3-2 home win over Tottenham Hotspur, with Megson hugely impressed by his new skipper.
He told the club's official website: "Some of the things that I hear about him, I find ridiculous.
"He is the most fouled player in the Premier League, yet I bet there are not too many people who foul him that get booked.
"It's not his fault that he is strong, honest and committed. They aren't faults, they are big strengths and people have got to start getting away from the perception of Kevin Davies and look at the reality.
"He is the most fouled player in the Premier League and he gets kicked from pillar to post, yet he has only been booked three times this season.
"He's got nine goals and he's had a couple disallowed. He gets hold of the ball, he competes and you know you are not going to get an easy time from him."
Davies joined Bolton in the summer of 2003 from Southampton and has scored 48 goals in 231 appearances for the Trotters to date.
