Bolton Wanderers' disappointing start to the season has taken a turn for the worse after it was confirmed that Kevin Davies suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to
Newcastle United.
The former Southampton and Blackburn man could be out of action for up to six weeks after limping out of the opening game of the season and being replaced by Heidar Helguson.
Bolton manager Sammy Lee told the club's official website: "Davo has suffered a slight tear in a hamstring and will be out for up to six weeks.
"It's obviously a massive blow as he's such an influential player in our team but it will give an opportunity for somebody else to stake their claim."
Ricardo Vaz Te is also set to have a scan on the foot injury that forced his withdrawal at half-time on Saturday.
