Coyle's only concern is safety
13 Mar 2010 - 10:55:52
Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle has admitted that he does not care how his side accumulate enough points to stave off the threat of relegation from the Premier League.
The Trotters are currently five points clear of the drop-zone, having secured a potentially crucial 2-1 win at West Ham last weekend.
Coyle told reporters: "I'm more concerned with winning points at the moment rather than shaping Bolton into my style of play.
"When I arrived Bolton were in the bottom three and we have now got ourselves out of that position, but that doesn't mean the hard work is over.
"There is a gradual evolving into what we want, but Bolton have played 11 league games now since I arrived - seven away from home - and we are making progress.
"That has kept us out of the bottom three, but to stay out we must continue to do our business right and keep taking points. That is the only way to stay up.
"What we are doing is short-term planning, but we have the belief that we will stay up.
"Once we have done that we will be able to put our stamp more on things and look beyond our current position."
Meanwhile, midfielder Gavin McCann looks to have played his last game for the club, with an ankle operation putting a premature end to his season.
Coyle added: "Gavin will now need an operation and a lot of rest. He'll be out certainly for the rest of the season and then some after that."
