Coyle fumes at Vidic's challenge
28 Mar 2010 - 15:35:06
Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle was extremely unhappy with Nemanja Vidic's challenge on Johan Elmander during Manchester United's 4-0 victory against the Trotters at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Serbia international's challenge on Elmander left the Bolton striker needing five stitches in a head wound and earned the wrath of a livid Coyle
Referee Martin Atkinson failed to even book Vidic, to Coyle's amazement. The former Burnley manager said: "I can only assume the referee hasn't seen it.
"Vidic has caught him with an elbow. There was blood pouring out of it. I'm not looking for excuses but anyone who's seen it knows it was a terrible challenge."
Meanwhile, United's cause was helped by Jlloyd Samuel's own goal, the former Aston Villa defender diverting Ryan Giggs' low cross into his own net, and Coyle added: "Jlloyd can't feel any worse.
"Next time he may make a better decision. It was a nice ball in from Ryan Giggs but no more than that."
