Bolton Wanderers midfielder Ivan Campo has admitted that he would like to return to Spain, with Athletic Bilbao believed to be leading the race for his signature.

The 32-year-old has been a regular in Sam Allardyce's side for the last four years since his transfer from Real Madrid, but he was only on the substitute's bench for Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Reading.

Campo has been linked with a move to Bilbao as the Basque club are keen to sign a replacement for Pablo Orbaiz, who faces eight months on the sidelines after rupturing knee ligaments.

"In England, I have returned to enjoying playing football but I already have a desire to return home," Campo told Marca.

The defender has scored 12 goals in 135 appearances for Bolton since moving to the Reebok Stadium in 2002.
