Cahill tipped for return to action
25 Mar 2010 - 12:42:41
Gary Cahill could hand Bolton Wanderers a major boost this weekend after boss Owen Coyle predicted that the influential defender could feature in Saturday evening's game against Manchester United.
The 24-year-old former Aston Villa star has been sidelined since the end of January when it was revealed that he had a blood clot in his arm.
At the time it was feared that Cahill would play no more football this season and would not be fit enough to be considered for Fabio Capello's England squad at this summer's World Cup finals.
However, he played for the reserves on Monday after being an unused substitute in the weekend defeat at Everton.
Coyle said: "Gary has come through the reserve game unscathed with no reaction. He has trained very well and so I think it's fair to say that he is under consideration, along with the rest of the lads.
"We all know the talent that he is and when you have him at your disposal then it can only help Bolton Wanderers. But we have to put into context that in his absence the lads have been magnificent.
"When I came into the club, we didn't have any shut-outs in the Premier League and we have now managed to put five together. And of the 13 games that we have played, eight of those have been away from home.
"Come Saturday we will look to pick the best team available and one which we feel can go and win the game."
