Cahill reveals return surprise
15 Mar 2010 - 09:42:47
Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill has spoken of his surprise at making a return to training just weeks after being ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old centre-half is hoping to feature in the Trotters' Premier League run-in despite initial fears that he would miss the rest of the season after being admitted to hospital following the discovery of a blood clot on his arm.
"Catching it so early has saved months of treatment," he explained.
"To have missed only a month and be on the verge of returning to full training with the rest of the squad is a massive turnaround.
"I now have a chance to feature in the run-in. I am going to work hard and make sure I am in the best possible condition when that time comes around."
However, Cahill is refusing to set his sights on winning a place in England's World Cup squad for South Africa.
He had been mentioned as a possible candidate for Fabio Capello's final 23-man squad before being struck down by injury.
"When you are in the squad you have a chance of playing," he added.
"But I can't do anything about it. It is all about getting fit and concentrating on my form for Bolton.
"If I can get back playing well and pick up where I left off you never know what might happen with England."
