Cahill pleads for end to booing
21 Sep 2009 - 12:44:46
Gary Cahill has called on the Bolton Wanderers fans to start backing the team and boss Gary Megson rather than booing them.
The Trotters were jeered as they left the pitch at half-time on Saturday in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City.
Cahill admits the supporters' reaction is affecting the players, saying: "It's weird. I try and block it out and do what's got me to where I am now.
"But sometimes it's hard for some of the players to do that. There's stuff going on off the pitch and maybe players are a bit quicker to move the ball on, whereas they might have taken a touch or got at players.
"Maybe it affects some players more than others but we definitely heard it on Saturday.
"I don't think it was ever going to be a classic to be honest, with the styles of the two teams. We can be pretty direct at times and Stoke are really direct.
"It was difficult but I thought we could have made it a lot easier for ourselves. We were looking for three points. Although we scored late in the game, even a point wasn't the best result.
"Their goal was really, really sloppy and we need to cut out those mistakes."
