Cahill agrees Bolton extension

Central defender Gary Cahill has pledged his long-term future to Bolton Wanderers by agreeing a new three-year contract.

The 23-year-old former Aston Villa stopper has impressed since joining the Trotters 18 months ago and has moved to the fringes of the England team as a result of his club form.

Manager Gary Megson said: "We're delighted to keep Gary because I've always said I want to build the team around him.

"He's been monitored by a lot of big clubs, so his decision to stay is one of the best signings we could have made.

"I believe he's easily the best young centre-back in the country."
