Bolton trial for Bolivian teenager

Bolton Wanderers have taken Bolivian teenager Gilbert Alvarez on trial.

The 18-year-old Callejas striker has been invited to join up with the squad on their pre-season tour to America and Trotters boss Owen Coyle is keen to see how he fares.

"He is talented and young. I am always loathed to speak about these players because at the end of the day we are not Real Madrid or Barcelona and bigger clubs can come in and undo all your good work," he told the Bolton News.

"But it's fair to say we have an interest in him. He has represented Bolivia already at senior international level and he is a talented young player that I like.

"He has a bit of everything. Hopefully, if we can get a chance to work with him for 10 days or so on a daily basis, then we can see if he is at the level we think he is."

Meanwhile, homegrown teenager Danny Ward is also likely to feature on the tour after his goalscoring exploits while on loan at Swindon Town last season.

The 18-year-old scored nine times in 32 appearances for the League One outfit.
