Bolton to appeal Cahill's red card
13 Sep 2010 - 15:41:13
Bolton Wanderers have launched an appeal over the red card shown to defender Gary Cahill during Saturday's defeat at Arsenal.
The England international was dismissed in the 64th minute of the 4-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
Referee Stuart Attwell considered his tackle from behind on striker Marouane Chamakh worthy of a straight red card and a match that had been evenly poised at 2-1 to the home side ended comfortably in Arsenal's favour.
Afterwards Trotters boss Owen Coyle confronted Attwell on the pitch and in his post-match interview launched a staunch defence of his central defender.
"I don't think it merited a red," he said. "All of a sudden we were playing Arsenal with ten men and it is difficult at the best of times with 11.
"We had put so much into the game that at that time we looked like the team who would get the equaliser."
The Football Association will hear Cahill's appeal under their fast-track system on Tuesday.
