Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has revealed he failed in a £7million approach for Reading striker Leroy Lita.
Megson was desperate to bolster his striking options ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline following the£15million departure of Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea earlier in the window.
But despite tabling a substantial offer for the England Under-21 striker, Megson failed to persuade Reading counterpart Steve Coppell to part with Lita.
Instead, Megson landed Southampton striker Grzegorz Rasiak on loan for the rest of the season.
"We had a £7million bid turned down - that shows our intention to get out of this position - but it may be a goer in the summer," he told The Sun.
Speaking about the acquisition of Poland striker Rasiak, he added: "Grzegorz is a big, powerful centre-forward who knows where the back of the net is.
"He will bring more firepower to the squad and allows us extra attacking options."
