Bolton move for Thompson
01 Feb 2007 - 08:10:20
Bolton Wanderers landed David Thompson on a permanent deal until the end of the season late on transfer deadline day.
Thompson, 29, was Trotters boss Sam Allardyce's third signing of the transfer window following the earlier captures of Lubomir Michalik and Zoltan Harsanyi.
The former Liverpool, Blackburn and Wigan midfielder failed to establish himself at Portsmouth after arriving at Fratton Park in the summer on a free transfer.
Thompson made 15 appearances for Pompey but was mostly used as a substitute at the south coast club this term.
"I have been an admirer of David Thompson for some time," Allardyce told the club's official website.
"He has the ability to play at this level and will add competition for places in the critical midfield role. He is a tenacious battling midfielder who has an excellent touch.
"David is excited by the prospect of returning to the north west and helping us attain our goal of European qualification at the end of this season."
