Bolton duo in Pompey talks

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has confirmed that his club are in advanced negotiations with Portsmouth over the sales of Danny Shittu and Gavin McCann.

Defender Shittu and midfielder McCann were both fringe members of Megson's first-team squad at the Reebok Stadium last season and would be allowed to move on.

However, the Trotters boss has revealed that discussions with their Premier League rivals are far from reaching any sort of agreement.

He said: "There are negotiations, but they're difficult and long-winded at the moment, so we'll see.

"If the lads end up leaving and joining Portsmouth, or anywhere else, or if any other player is going, then we will need to bring people in.

"As we stand we've got 21 outfield players and they're not exactly 21 really top drawer ones.

"There are some really good players in there, but there are some people that we've brought in just to give them a chance of going forward and it doesn't always work out."
