Bolton confident over Cahill

Bolton Wanderers are confident of keeping Gary Cahill at the Reebok Stadium despite reported interest in the defender.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with moves for the former England Under-21 international in recent days.

Cahill, who joined the Trotters in a £5million deal from Aston Villa in January 2008, has been a rock at the back for Gary Megson's side this season and Wanderers are keen to keep hold of him.

"The chairman has been speaking to him and his people about offering him a new deal," revealed Megson.

"And regardless of that, he is still under contract here anyway.

"From a club point of view, I have been very, very pleased with him.

"Gary came here to play more first team football week-in, week-out and he's got that."
