Blues fail with Anelka bid
07 Jan 2008 - 17:51:23
Reports suggest Bolton Wanderers have rejected a bid from Chelsea for France international striker Nicolas Anelka.
Blues boss Avram Grant is keen to bolster his strikeforce as Didier Drogba, who has endured an injury-ravaged season, is set to represent Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations later this month.
Bolton boss Gary Megson has hinted for several weeks that he was expecting to lose the nomadic 27-year-old in the January transfer window and left him out of the side for Saturday's FA Cup third round defeat to Sheffield United.
Anelka moved to the Reebok Stadium for £8million from Fenerbahce in August 2006 and has scored 21 goals in 53 Premier League appearances for the club.
He started his career with Paris St Germain and was involved in big-money switches to Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City before moving to Turkey for £7million three years ago.
