Alonso cleared for Bolton

Real Sociedad have confirmed that they have allowed midfielder Mikel Alonso to link up with Bolton Wanderers for a pre-season training camp.

The 27-year-old brother of Liverpool's Xabi Alonso wants to move on after the Basque club were relegated from the Primera Liga and will join the Trotters in Austria.

A statement from Real read: "Bolton Wanderers have shown an interest in acquiring Mikel Alonso.

"Real Sociedad have accepted the request made by the English club to allow Alonso to take part in the pre-season stage with Bolton in Austria.

"After that, Bolton will have to announce to Real Sociedad if they are definitely going to make an offer for the player."

Alonso has been with Sociedad for five years, making well over 100 appearances for the Anoeta outfit.

Wanderers boss Sammy Lee had earlier said of the player: "Mikel is a creative midfielder who has an excellent passing game, similar to his brother Xabi, who plays at Liverpool."
