United game will be yardstick - Coyle
Owen Coyle intends to use Sunday's clash with Manchester United to work out how far Bolton have progressed during his time in charge.
Although they head into the local derby on the back of their disappointing Carling Cup reverse at Burnley, the Trotters have largely been on an upward curve since Coyle moved to the Reebok Stadium from Turf Moor in January.
Bolton have lost just once so far this term, at Arsenal, with both their previous matches at the Reebok Stadium, against Fulham and Birmingham, ending level.
That is part of a sequence of results that includes just two home defeats since Coyle took charge.
However, as one of them was against Sunday's visitors in March, Coyle views this weekend's encounter as the ideal measuring stick for the progression that has been made.
"This is a gauge to see if we have improved," he said. "We are in for a tough afternoon because I believe Manchester United will go close to winning the Premier League again. But I want to make sure we perform in a way where we have no regrets."
