Trotters back on track - Steinsson
Captain Kevin Davies called a players' meeting last Friday after a run of five matches without a win dropped Wanderers dangerously close to the relegation zone.[LNB]Prior to that, manager Gary Megson had alluded to unsettling influences within the club but, after their clear-the-air talks, the team responded by drawing 3-3 at home to Manchester City last Saturday.[LNB]They then beat West Ham 3-1 in midweek - only their second win since September 26 - and Steinsson said the squad had re-focused themselves after the players' meeting.[LNB]"Sometimes you just need to set everyone so they are looking at the same thing, get our aim right," he said.[LNB]"We just needed to put in a little bit of extra work and a little bit extra pressure on ourselves - even though there is already a lot of pressure on us.[LNB]"We haven't been doing as well as we wanted and we need to do better, we know it, and the last two games we have been getting the points.[LNB]"We all care. We want to do better, we want to do well for the team and for the team to do well."[LNB]The Iceland defender admits there are disagreements within the squad over minor issues but felt, because of the club's poor form, they had been blown out of all proportion.[LNB]"We have our differences on a professional point of view but everyone has disagreements in work and in life and it is the same at a football club," he added.[LNB]"We are allowed to disagree. It is the normal thing. The players have cleared the air. We are just professionals who want to do well.[LNB]"Disagreements at the training ground, in games, at half-time and after games is just normal - we are men and we want to win, that is the way it is.[LNB]"If you focus on it and say there are problems here then there are problems everywhere.[LNB]"When the rumours are about us it we just laugh about it, it is ridiculous.[LNB]"If people were around us at the training ground they would know we are really competitive and want to win."[LNB]Bolton head to neighbours Wigan on Monday knowing they have to maintain the momentum which has brought them four points from their last two matches.[LNB]"We have worked hard, been more focused as a team and we have used our chances better," said Steinsson of the team's improved results.[LNB]"We should have done better against City but against West Ham it was fully deserved.[LNB]"Wigan on Monday is a massive game for us. They have a fantastic young manager, some good players and have been playing some really good football.[LNB]"They have been unfortunate - the same as us - but in a local derby everything is possible."[LNB]And despite all their main rivals having a chance to gain an early advantage over the weekend, Steinsson is more than happy to be playing after everyone else.[LNB]"You can get the extra rest after the last two games and really get your head down and work on the things we need to work on," added the 27-year-old right-back.[LNB][LNB] Wigan v Bolton.
