Taylor agrees new Bolton deal

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has confirmed Matt Taylor has agreed a new contract and hopes Gary Cahill will soon follow suit. Skysports.com revealed earlier this month that Taylor was in talks with the Trotters over an extension to his deal which was due to expire in 2011. The midfielder has accepted a one-year top-up to that agreement and Megson has praised Taylor's impact since his arrival from Portsmouth in January 2008. "Matt's agreed to sign an extension to his contract, which he is pleased about, his family is pleased about, and obviously we are," Megson told the Bolton News. "Matt's a southern lad, it's his first time up north and he loves it. He thinks he's become an honorary northerner by virtue of the fact he is buying a house here rather than just renting one. "I don't think he can see any pigeon lofts from where his house is, but he seems to be happy here and he has done great for us. "He scored 10 goals last season and is a big influence with his set-pieces and work-rate. Hopefully he can go from strength to strength." Terrific Megson is now aiming to persuade Cahill to sign an extension as the former Aston Villa defender looks to push his way into the England reckoning. "We're speaking to Gary about trying to get him sorted - I definitely think he will be here for the long term," said Megson. "Hopefully, it will be done sooner rather than later. "I have been delighted with him since we brought him here, when he had only played 17 Premier League games. He was all about potential. "We were in a position where people probably looked at it as being a strange signing, bringing in a young inexperienced player, but he has been terrific. "That's the kind of player I want to build the team around. That's what we're trying to do."
