Swedes hold Elmander hope

Sweden boss Lars Lagerback insists he has not given up on including Bolton striker Johan Elmander in his World Cup qualifying squad. Elmander has been ruled out of action for at least 10 days after suffering a hamstring injury playing for the Trotters' reserves last Monday. Bolton boss Gary Megson thought the 28-year-old would miss Sweden's forthcoming double-header, including their crunch clash against rivals Denmark. But national coach Lagerback has confirmed the £10million striker will be given until the start of next week to overcome the problem. "It is not impossible that he can join us after Monday," he told Aftonbladet. "We have contact with Johan and he is making ongoing progress and if he can perform on top, he will join us on Monday."
