Slim squad could be fatal - Boss

Megson has been working with arguably the smallest pool of players in the Premier League. Yet they have managed to remain in the top flight for the second successive season under his stewardship. It is a considerable achievement but Megson is now keen to make serious investment during the summer in all areas apart from the goalkeeping position. If not he fears that Bolton might go the way of Middlesbrough, who are struggling to avoid the drop. Megson said: "Money is tight everywhere but we have got to kick on If we do not then we are going to have real problems next season. "We have made a profit in transfer business in the last two years and the wage bill is down as well. "We are pleased but that was not my brief. If you do not keep going forward you get problems. "Look at Middlesbrough. They slashed the wage bill and players left. They have gone with youngsters and now have a huge task trying to avoid relegation. "A number of players have gone from here and because of our size not as many have been brought in. "We have a chance to redress that balance and it has got to happen. We have already identified targets we would like to bring in. "We want to improve and I would like to alter the style of play a little bit. But we will be taking baby steps on that score." Megson has been pleased with his side's progress. "There has been a lot of good things this season, " he said. "We have scored more goals and let fewer in. There have been small improvements." Former Aston Villa full-back Jlloyd Samuel is looking to maintain his 100% league appearance record this season at Eastlands. Megson added: "He has been consistent and done well for us. He has given it his best shot. "To play for a full season in the Premier League is a big achievement. He's had a good campaign."
