After just four wins from their opening 18 games, Bolton dispensed with the services of manager Gary Megson, replacing him with Burnley's Owen Coyle.

Following a 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal in his opening game, Coyle began to steady the ship, eventually leading the club to Premier League safety with 39 points.

Lee Chung-Yong and Gary Cahill impressed despite the club's poor showing and both players will be vital if the Trotters are to push on this season.

In Martin Petrov, Robbie Blake (both free)

Out Ali Al Habsi (loan, Wigan Athletic)

Player to watch Martin Petrov

The former Manchester City player joined Wanderers last month after his contract at Eastlands came to an end. Coveted by a number of clubs before deciding upon a move to the Reebok stadium, Petrov will add some much-needed pace to Owen Coyle's side.

His ability to run at opponents and deliver crosses from either flank should help provide Kevin Davies with plenty of opportunities.

Football.co.uk verdict

With a full pre-season and plenty of time to prepare, expect Owen Coyle to comfortably keep Bolton in the top-flight next term.

At present a relegation battle seems unlikely, but so does a push towards a top ten place.

If Coyle gets a few quid to spend and can bring Jack Wilshere back on loan then they may even challenge for mid-table mediocrity.

Prediction - 14th
