Petrov likes Trotters' style

olton new boy Martin Petrov has revealed he was attracted to the Trotters because of Owen Coyle's preference for attacking football.[LNB] Petrov was released by City this summer, bringing to an end a three-year spell at Eastlands which had started promisingly but grew increasingly frustrating for the Bulgaria international.[LNB]Signed for the club by Sven-Goran Eriksson in July 2007, Petrov soon impressed as an incisive winger with an eye for goal, but knee problems and a constant stream of expensive new signings arriving at City made it more and more difficult for him to hold down a regular place in the team.[LNB]Sidelined again for the conclusion of the 2009-10 campaign and with his contract running out, Petrov was starting to feel like a forgotten man.[LNB]Bolton came calling, though, and now the 31-year-old is determined to repay the faith Wanderers have shown in him by rediscovering his best form.[LNB]Coyle has tried to introduce a more vibrant, attacking style at the Reebok Stadium since taking over as manager in January - something Petrov looks forward to being a part of.[LNB]Asked if he felt he represented Bolton's new dynamic brand of football, Petrov said: "I hope so - I want to show the manager, the chairman and the fans that they did not make the wrong decision and that they have a good player.[LNB]"It was most important that they told me they wanted to play good football with passing, and wingers and crosses to score more goals - that we would not defend too much but go in every game for the win.[LNB]"That is important for me as a winger, because if your team doesn't play good football, then you don't touch the ball![LNB]"But I think in this team we have good players who can pass the ball around and make good games.[LNB]"It is very important for every footballer that they are happy. If you have problems that will show on the pitch, but now I have a smile."[LNB]Petrov, who played for Wolfsburg and Atletico Madrid prior to joining City, was less than happy with his treatment towards the end of his time at Eastlands and has accused the club of being unprofessional for a lack of communication with him about his future.[LNB]He was, however, grateful to City's medical staff who worked with him during that period, overseeing the recovery that has allowed him to be fit for pre-season training with his new club.[LNB]Petrov looked sharp on his Bolton debut, scoring one goal and setting up another in a friendly against Charlotte Eagles.[LNB]And, now he is fully back in the mix of a squad environment, the midfielder is confident that if he stays injury-free he can give Wanderers fans something to be excited about this season.[LNB]"For the last few months I haven't trained with a team - I trained at Manchester City just with the physio," Petrov said.[LNB]"Now I have started to train with a team it is very positive and I am very happy.[LNB]"I hope this pre-season that I don't have problems with my knee and I have spoken with the physio here about making a special programme.[LNB]"If I have a good pre-season, I will know how I am, because I have played now for so many years in England, Spain and Germany.[LNB]"I know if that happens, then I can start the season well and be positive for this team and for the fans."
