Megson won't be selling prize assets

Centre-back Gary Cahill is currently his most valuable asset and he has already been linked with a number of clubs.[LNB]Manchester City are the latest rumoured to be interested, with Joleon Lescott ruled out for eight weeks and Kolo Toure departing for the African Nations Cup in January.[LNB]Cahill has been a revelation in central defence since his £5million signing from Aston Villa in January 2008 but this season has added goals to his game and his five so far represent a career-best haul.[LNB]The 24-year-old is on the fringe of Fabio Capello's England squad and if he makes it to South Africa his value - and his profile - would undoubtedly shoot up.[LNB]But Megson said the club would have to receive a bid which "blew other deals out of the water" for him to even consider selling his best players.[LNB]"I'd be very surprised if there were, if not bids, then interest," said Megson of the approaching transfer window.[LNB]"The worrying thing is it doesn't always come to myself, it might go to Phil Gartside (chairman) or Allan Duckworth (chief executive).[LNB]"We need to make sure we are all singing from the same hymn sheet.[LNB]"There are players here who are, in my view, untouchable. We can't move them on, we wouldn't want to move them on because we want to go forward.[LNB]"Everyone does have their price sometimes but it does have to be a deal which blows other deals out of the water - like Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Real Madrid.[LNB]"From our own point of view we have players here who would have a high value if they were put on the open market.[LNB]"But we have to temper that with what would happen to our football club if we let them go."[LNB]Megson, however, accepted that there were other members of his squad who would be available for transfer.[LNB]"But there are people who, if the opportunity came, they would want to go and play more football.[LNB]"It is about making the right decisions, in or out."[LNB][LNB]
