Megson wants more after win

Bolton manager Gary Megson was not completely happy with his side's 3-2 win over Portsmouth. The Trotters won an exciting game at Fratton Park thanks to goals from Tamir Cohen, a penalty from Matt Taylor and a last-minute winner from Gary Cahill, but Megson said there was still room for improvement. "Overall I'd been disappointed, with the fact that we were up as many times as we were over the course of the game we would have been disappointed not to win it," he told Sky Sports. "The goals that we're giving away at the moment are sloppy and we've got to get away from that. "But I thought there were two teams out there that were nervy, and it's understandable given the position we are in and I'm just really pleased that we've managed to come out with the three points. "That takes, not a great deal of pressure from our backs, but what it does take off our back is the fact that we've got no points after three games. "We're still, I think, down on what we would have expected at this stage but to come here and get a result under the circumstances that we faced is a great testament to the lads that we've got." Having conceded an equaliser to Younes Kaboul in the first half, Bolton were awarded a controversial penalty four minutes before the break after Kevin Davies went down after a tackle from Tal Ben-Haim But Megson said that although he did not clearly see the incident, tackling from behind in the box is a dangerous game. "I can't comment on the actual penalty itself because I'm looking at Fab Muamba who's done brilliantly to rob the left-back and then Kevin Davies to drive into the box," he said. "It's a tackle from behind, whether he's got anything on the ball or not you will probably know better than I do but when you do tackle from that side invariably you're going to be sailing close to the wind." Asked what expectations he holds for the season ahead, Megson added: "I don't have them, I have expectations of the players in terms of I know what they can do, I know what they're capable of doing. "We've got a little bit fortunate there in the last few minutes that it's dropped for us - against Liverpool we certainly weren't fortunate and definitely not against Hull and to a lesser extent against Sunderland, so maybe we've got the monkey off our back."
