Megson: Trotters won't sit back

Gary Megson insists his Bolton side will not fall foul of complacency heading down the final stretch of the Premier League season. A comprehensive 4-1 victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday has helped lift the Trotters into the relative safety of mid-table. They now sit eight points clear of the relegation zone with seven games remaining and appear destined to be playing top-flight football next term. Just one more victory would take them to the much-touted 40-point mark, but Megson is hoping to smash through that barrier and push for a top-half finish. "We have got the same number of points now as we did over the whole of last season," Megson told the Bolton News. "And that won't be enough to stay up, so we've now got to kick on. "The players won't sit back. I'm quite confident about that. "We might pass it badly or finish badly at times but I have never once had to have a go at them because they have tossed a game in and not tried hard enough." Megson admits he was concerned by the lacklustre tempo on show from his side during the opening exchanges of the weekend mauling of Boro. But the Trotters chief was delighted with the end result and is hoping the confidence gained from that game can be carried through the run-in. "I had to get myself on the line and have a go at one or two players just to get them at it. I don't mind doing that," he added. "I'd said to the players before the game that no team is going to get any better at this stage of the season technically. "But it's those virtues that you look for, who has got the desire and passion to really go on and take the game to the opposition that will win you games now. "We got it in the end, and we went on to get a marvellous result."
