Gary Megson felt it was a 'defining Saturday' for Bolton following their 4-1 victory over Middlesbrough.[LNB] Kevin Davies, Gary Cahill, Matthew Taylor and Ricardo Gardner found the target for the Trotters, who moved eight points clear of the relegation zone as a result.[LNB]Bolton have struggled in the bottom half of the table for much of the season but Megson accepts they should now be safe.[LNB]The manager will not allow his players to become complacent but he was delighted with the work ethic on display against Boro.[LNB]He said: "Obviously it is a great result. We have played that game today with the knowledge if we put in a good performance and get a good win this was a really defining Saturday.[LNB]"We are eight points above the relegation zone with probably a better goal difference than most in there so it is going to be difficult (to be caught).[LNB]"But I don't think we can turn around and say if we finish on 37 points that will be enough.[LNB]"At times today we didn't pass brilliantly or finish brilliantly but right the way through the game we battled and worked our socks off and we got our just rewards."[LNB]
