Megson rules out Veloso bid

Gary Megson concedes Bolton Wanderers do not have the resources to make a renewed bid to sign Sporting Lisbon ace Miguel Veloso. The Trotters tried to bring in the Portugal international in January and have been linked with another attempt to land the £15million-rated midfielder. However, Megson admits Sporting's valuation of Veloso means a deal is out of Bolton's reach, with Manchester City rumoured to be showing an interest. "We were trying to get Veloso done in January, but we're not capable of doing the kind of deal they are talking about," the Trotters boss told the Bolton News. "We're just not in that league." Forward target Megson has been active in the transfer market over the summer, bringing Paul Robinson, Zat Knight, Sean Davis and Sam Ricketts to the Reebok Stadium. South Korean winger Lee Chung-yong is also due to join and Megson has now set his sights on improving his striking options before the start of the season. He added: "We need an option up there. Last season Ariza Makukula was here and that didn't really come off. "We need to bring another forward to this football club because when we had what you'd consider mainstream first-team players missing last season, we couldn't win a raffle. "We have got to make the first team stronger by making the squad stronger. "We're in the process of doing that now, but if we could come up with another forward from somewhere, and another midfielder, then I'd be more than happy."
