Megson reserves judgement until new year

Bolton manager Gary Megson believes you can only judge a team's prospects when the Barclays Premier League campaign spins into the second half. That is why he is refusing to read too much into the results of the opening games of the campaign. Bolton began with a home defeat to Sunderland and travel to Hull on Saturday hoping to put things right Megson said: "Up until about halfway - I would say 23 games - nobody knows what kind of season they are going to have. Everton didn`t get the best of starts last year but finished in the top six. Hull made a great start but needed to check out the result on the last day to make sure they stayed up. "Halfway through last season Tottenham were in trouble, then spent £50million in the transfer window and hey presto things improved a bit. "Our opening day did not go as planned and it was disappointing overall performance. You have to accept there is a lot more scrutiny as football has changed. "I remember when they only put a league table out after three games. Now it's there from the start - and we`ve got to try to improve."
