Megson reserves judgement on Whites

Bolton travel to Hull on Saturday hoping to put their opening-day defeat to Sunderland at the Reebok Stadium, but Megson will not worry even if the Whites are beaten again. He said: "Up until about halfway - I would say 23 games - nobody knows what kind of season they are going to have. "Everton did not get the best of starts last year but finished in the top six. "Hull made a great start but needed to check out the result on the last day to make sure they stayed up. "Halfway through last season Tottenham were in trouble, then spent £50million in the transfer window and hey presto things improved a bit. "Our opening day did not go as planned and it was disappointing overall performance. You have to accept there is a lot more scrutiny as football has changed. "I remember when they only put a league table out after three games. Now it's there from the start - and we have got to try to improve." Newly-promoted Burnley caused the shock of the opening week by defeating Manchester United at Turf Moor. Megson was of the school, however, who thought an upset could be on the cards. He said: "You have got a team that has not played in the Premier League for goodness knows how many years having their biggest game of the season. "United had a few missing and Burnley would have treated it quite rightly like a cup final. It is a great result, good luck to them. But again it is just one game and United will be fine." Megson saw Hull lost 5-1 to Tottenham and added: "I think it will make it harder for us on Saturday. "It was a difficult game to assess because Tottenham were fantastic going forward. I have not seen football like that for a long time." Hull 11/8, Bolton 2/1, Draw 9/4
