Megson: O'Brien is going nowhere

O'Brien has not made a first-team appearance this season, spending most of his time on the bench following the summer signing of Zat Knight. Middlesbrough made enquires before the end of the transfer window, but Trotters boss Megson confirmed he does not want to lose the experienced centre-half. "There's been one or two clubs reported to be interested and I've had a call from one Championship club, but I've told them 'no' and I've told Andy he won't be going out on loan," said Megson. The former Newcastle United stopper has undergone a hernia operation during the international break and could be fit to take a place on the bench for Saturday's game at Manchester United. Megson added: "He was having a few problems so we've got that done during this period where there are no games. "Whether it heals in time for Saturday I'm not sure, but if it doesn't it won't be ongoing after that." Sam Ricketts is also doubtful for the trip to Old Trafford after the full-back missed Wales' World Cup qualifiers against Finland and Liechtenstein with an ankle injury. The Bolton boss continued: "Sam came back because he's got a knock and we'll see how he is for the weekend. "He's had a knock on his ankle and had a few problems with it. It's nothing major, but it just flared up."
