Gary Megson admits he was close to adding to his squad before the transfer deadline, but is unsure if Bolton Wanderers are ready for expensive signings.[LNB] After Megson spent big on Johan Elmander last summer, he was considering breaking the club's transfer record with a deal for Miguel Veloso in January.[LNB]The Bolton boss opted against pushing on with a bid for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder after expressing concerns about the amount of money involved.[LNB]Megson outlined his cautious approach to bringing in fresh faces, but revealed he was near to increasing his options in the final days of the transfer window.[LNB]Close not good enough"We were close, but close is not good enough," said Megson on Sky Sports News. "We clearly needed to get them in and we couldn't do that.[LNB]"What I wasn't prepared to do was say, we want player X - it would be unfair to say what their name was - and if we can't get him, we'll get Y, and if not, then we'll get Z.[LNB]"It would get to a point where is that actually improving us or can we do it without affecting ourselves in some other way.[LNB]"If we'd have bought a certain player that would have cost us absolutely millions, I don't think we're ready for that, it would have been like putting a tiara on a big shire horse.[LNB]"We're not at that point yet, so we've got to get a squad and a team that is capable of getting results in the Premiership and moving on from there."[LNB]
